Every day before I start working, I listen to a couple of tracks that put a smile on my face or make me happy or make me dance. I can’t listen to music while I write, but I normally can listen to music while I organize a spreadsheet or write short emails or design an activity or even do some grading.
I feel like I have a very eclectic taste in music. I am really into reggaeton, reggae, R&B, and Hip Hop. But then I also love listen to salsa, merengue, bachata and even a little bit of vallenato. I am not going to lie, we listened to plenty of Euro EDM in Panama so I still listen to some of the classics from the 80s and 90s.
I feel completely loss when people talk about rock in English. But, I really enjoy rock en Español. Another type of music that I really enjoy is Bossa Nova and Samba. I can understand some of the words in Portuguese, but for the most part I have not clue what the songs are about. I love the rhythm of the music and the Portuguese language, so I keep listening to it. Just recently I was doing a virtual yoga class and the instructor was playing afrobeats. I loved it. I had to create an Afrobeats Pandora station.
Anyways, I feel that if there is one thing that helps me and for the most part brings me joy while I work is music. It doesn’t matter what mood I am in, it is therapeutic to put on my headphones and transport to a moment, a place, a feeling. I wonder if others listen to music while they work? Also, can they can listen to music and do major tasks? Also, I am curious what type of music people listen to. Perhaps others have equally eclectic taste in music.
Whenever I feel like I want to transport myself back to Panama I listen to Ruben Blades and his song “Patria” (in English it translates to “homeland”).
